Walk-in Closet Design in the Arts and Crafts Style

Walk-in Closet Design in the Arts and Crafts Style

Rowena and Rob own their own business, so the day starts early. And with three young and active boys in the house, the family’s routine is extremely hectic. So, when Rowena and Rob built their new house, Rowena wanted it to include a quiet haven where she could spend a few moments alone getting ready and collecting her thoughts each morning. She wanted a closet design with ample storage that someone of her petite stature could easily reach. She also wanted the custom closet design to coordinate with the Arts and Crafts style home. What’s more, the project had to be completed in time for 2007 Chicago Luxury Home Tour.

In addition to creating custom closets for Rob and the boys, Closet Organizing Systems developed and installed a master “hers” walk-in closet design to meet all of Rowena’s requirements. The closet functions as a spacious, self-sufficient room with a sit-down storage bench, mirror, and hamper. The shoe cubbies are slanted for accessibility, and a set of stacked drawers keep jewelry, scarves, and accessories organized. While the drawers and cabinets are within Rowena’s reach, the vertical space does not go to waste; she now stores seldom-used and seasonal items up high on open shelves that allow her to see what’s there.

Rowena worked with Closet Organizing Systems design specialists to select the elements for her custom closet design idea from the Finishing Touches Gallery. Finished in a rich Chocolate Peartree melamine, the custom closet design features Shaker doors and drawers, seedy glass, custom Arts and Crafts style headers, and special glass hardware to complement the doorknobs throughout the rest of the home. Crown and base moulding enhance the space with a look of elegance and sophistication.

The entire Closet Organizing Systems family worked together during the closet design process to develop a unique closet design idea. They also collaborated during the construction and installation phases to ensure the project’s complete success. In the end, the custom closet design not only met all project requirements, but it was a favorite highlight of the Luxury Home Tour in the greater Chicago, Illinois, area. Rowena continues to enjoy beginning and ending each day in her own private space.
